Metodología: Se aplicó una encuesta autodiligenciada, con previa autorización de los colegios y los padres, a estudiantes que cursan de sexto a undécimo grado, pertenecientes a un colegio público estrato 2 y a uno privado estrato 5 indagando sobre características sociodemográficas y violencia (haber sido golpeado recientemente, uso de violencia física y porte de armas rutinario u ocasional en la institución educativa). Resultados: Se encuestaron 1255 estudiantes, de los cuales 969 pertenecían a un colegio público y 286 a uno privado. El rango de edades se ubicó entre los 10 y 20 años. Se encontró que existe una mayor prevalencia de llevar un arma rutinariamente a la institución en los estudiantes de colegio público (OR 8,9 IC 95 % 1,2-66,1). Conclusión: Las características socioeconómicas y el contexto que rodean a un estudiante son factores que influyen en su comportamiento violento y en el porte de armas.Objective: To assess the difference of violent behavior between a school of 4 and 5 socioecomic strata (upper) and a school of socioecomic strata 2 (lower). Methodology: A self-questionnaire was administered to students in 6th to 11th grade, who attending a private school and a public one (socioeconomic strata 4-5 and 2, respectively). It was obtained previous consent from schools and parents. The questionnaire asked about sociodemographic characteristics and violent behavior (if the student was hit recently, the use of physical violence and, the bearing of weapons as a routine or occasionally at the educational institution). Results: 1255 students whose ages ranged from 10 to 20 years were interviewed of which 969 belong to a public school and, 286 to a private one. The larger prevalence of bearing of weapons was found in the public school (OR 8,9 CI 95 % 1,2-66,1).
