Publicación Acceso abierto Enhancing phonemic awareness in bilingual kindergarten students : the impact of multisensory material in pre-reading skills(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas, 2024-03) Riaño Riaño, Yenny Juliana; León Castro, Aura Cristina; Osorio de Sarmiento, MartaThe current research explores the incidence of didactic material in the English learning process while considering phonemic awareness in kindergarten students and its importance in English language teaching. Previous research has discovered that teachers’ beliefs and practices have a significant influence on teaching phonemic processes (Tatto, 2019). Still, little attention has been given to the impact of the instructional material on teaching a language to kindergarten students (Vidal, 2019). The study, which will be carried out considering the population in the William Kilpatrick Kindergarten, adopted a qualitative paradigm and an action research approach to collect data on students’ speaking skills; it was developed through semi-structured interviews. Furthermore, it is expected to help teachers to make informed decisions about the materials they choose for the teaching process. Consequently, this might suggest that an effective approach for teaching English to early childhood students could involve instructional material that takes into account the significance of age and phonemic awareness in the learning process.Publicación Acceso abierto Identify adolescents' attitudes when learning English as a foreign language in 10th graders(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas., 2023) Quijano Barrera, Henry Nicolas; León Castro, Aura Cristina; Osorio de Sarmiento, MartaThis study aims to investigate the influence of teenagers' attitudes in English language learning and what is behind those attitudes to improve the student's willingness to learn. Thus, the sample consists of 26 ten graders in Gimnasio Los Pinos who are students from 14 to 16 years old. The students are interviewed and observed within the context; in this sense, the data collection focuses on how the previous experiences affect their current attitudes toward English and whether there is any other factor that can affect the attitude, such as the aptitude or ability to develop activities in the target language. The preliminary conclusions will focus on understanding the students’ attitudes and their perspectives on the language. Thus, by understanding those attitudes the English learning process would be facilitated based on the factors that shape the students’ attitudes.Publicación Acceso abierto The influence of emotional intelligence in the performance of English-Speaking skill in 7th graders at Gimnasio Los Pinos(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas., 2023) Montealegre Cuellar, Jhoan Sebastian; León Castro, Aura Cristina; Osorio de Sarmiento, MartaEmotional intelligence is a key means that influences language learning since English is a communication tool that requires expressing thoughts and emotions to develop language skills such as speaking. Therefore, the present study attempts to explain the importance of emotional. This study focuses on students in 7th grade of the Gimnasio Los Pinos of Bogotá, who usually feel emotions such as anxiety, stress, and insecurity when speaking in English, which hinders the learning process. As a result, it is expected to contribute to the educational field from psychology in order to facilitate the learning of oral skill through emotional intelligence and affective skillsPublicación Acceso abierto Uncovering the theories of practice of an English teacher in a rural setting(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas, 2024-05) Cadavid Londoño, Linda Sofía; León Castro, Aura Cristina; Osorio de Sarmiento, MartaThe current research explores the teaching process of an English teacher supported by her theories of practice in a rural setting. According to Johnson et al., (2021) this is the result of the often-overlooked attention that rural teachers receive from the government and in general the academic scholarship. Previous research has found that there may be unique challenges and opportunities associated with teaching English in a rural setting among other lack of resources, infrastructure, and professional development options, which in turn could shape teachers’ theories of practice. However, little attention has been given to how these English teacher’s theories of practice are constructed within their role in rural scenarios.
