Publicación Acceso abierto English Teaching Resources Within Educational Field to Optimize the Learning Processes in formal language institutions in Bogota Colombia(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas, 2024) Martínez Méndez, Luis Carlos; Pedraza González, Sally Alexandra; Acero Ordoñez, Oscar LeonardoAlong the EFL learning and teaching process, teachers and learners go through this exercise using educative resources. These resources are used as the guide during all the steps. Nonetheless, the participants of the EFL learning and teaching process are not always aware of the pertinence and effectiveness of these tools within the development of the program. Therefore, a study to measure and analyze how much benefit these tools bring to the process was pertinent. Two well known English teaching institutions in Bogotá Colombia were selected to be part of the research. The objective of the study was to analyze and find out about the effectiveness and pertinence of the resources used to teach inside those places to optimize EFL teaching and learning. In order to conduct the study, the researchers decided to examine opinions and perceptions of teachers and experts of EFL. Additionally, the perception, opinions and performance of speaking and listening ability of English learners were studied and analyzed. The instruments used and applied to gather the data, were adapted so it was possible to develop the study under the new reality of distant education established after the pandemic. The tasks and assessment used was designed using elements found within the resources implemented to teach inside the two English institutions, so the analysis was based on real facts.Publicación Acceso abierto CLIL: Proposal for Oral English Language Production in Nursery Senior Students at Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas, 2022) Gómez Molano, José Albeiro; Acero Ordoñez, Oscar LeonardoOne of the most pertinent things to make happen in Colombian Education is that of improving the FLL into the society. With the advent of the pandemic, it is captivating to consider FLL through a different, updated, and contextualized methodology from the traditional one. CLIL, looked upon as a methodology that involves Content and Language learning at the same time, is taken into online training processes. That way, in a qualitative paradigm related to Action Research, it was fundamental to design and to implement Mixed Activities based on students’ backgrounds for the oral skill production improvement, that motivate students into using this skill in order to express their ideas and opinions on Covid- 19. Thus, it was considered the implementation of questionnaires, a documentary review, non-participant observation exercises, and a focus group to see the extent of the proposal for methodological and oral skill issues in twenty Nursing senior students at UPTC. The FLL after the implementation of the Mixed Activities, let students work on them regarding their personal, social, and cultural contexts. The online activities contributed to having more contact with the FL to acquiring as many vocabulary content components as possible to deal orally with the activities. The in-person lessons could show what students knew and were capable of performing orally in front of the teacher for assessment. Their oral skill improved by interacting with the lesson mates. The oral expression, comprehension and negotiation played the seminal role of communication regardless of the mistakes in pronunciation, language structure, hesitation, lack of vocabulary that came up in this exercise.Publicación Acceso abierto Local culture to encourage intercultural communicative competence in young learners in the EFL classroom at a rural school in Choachí Cundinamarca.(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas, 2023-12) Vargas Hernández, Lida Yasmín; Cely Betancourt, Blanca Lucia; Grupo de Investigación: CibelesThe challenge for teachers in the face of the new dynamics of education is to respond to a society immersed in a process of globalization and influenced by technological change. The dynamics of today's world require citizens with intercultural and foreign language communication skills, as well as skills in new technologies, among others. However, when examining the reality of rural educational contexts, we see that teachers in rural schools face great challenges to carry out this type of training due to the lack of technological resources. However, in the case of the implementation of intercultural skills, it is traditionally taught in the English class from the perspective of knowledge of the foreign language, leaving aside the recognition of one's own culture, given the cultural richness of these communities.Publicación Acceso abierto Octalysis framework : a favorable environment to increase successful practices in English as a foreign language (EFL) classrooms(Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas, 2023) Medina Gómez, Diana Carolina; Cely Betancourt, Blanca Lucia; Grupo de Investigación: CibelesGamification has become a concept that is permeating the new classroom dynamics. Children from today will learn through different ways in which games and technology are the means. This study shows the contributions of gamification to the specific educational processes of teaching English as a foreign language by using the Octalysis Framework method in fourth-grade students at Colegio Rosario de Santo Domingo. To find the outcomes of this study a qualitative paradigm will be used, and an action-research approach will lead the research. The investigation methods of the study will be semi-structured interviews, interaction workshops, field journals, ethnographic and participatory observations, start and exit workshops, and focus groups. These techniques will help to understand better the teaching-learning processes from the teachers’ and students’ points of view. Results will show that gamified settings improve students’ performance during their class lessons and pupils will be successful while learning a foreign language. Data collected showed that the implementation of Octalysis in teaching English as a foreign language not only improves communicative competencies in the target language, but also social relations among participants, creating a peaceable and a more relaxed learning environment. Finally, this strategy was proven to greatly increase motivation and engagement in the learning process.
